A thousand books
became something bigger.

This domain was reserved to digitize a historic church's book collection — about a thousand titles, one shelf at a time. We soon learned that our good intentions were met by fierce copyright laws, even though the church owned the book collection outright. That project never opened its doors. But the idea underneath it — that people should own and control what's theirs — didn't go away. It became HatDat™, a platform where you own your data and earn from it, not a library that gives it away for free, but a place to free the user, and take back what belongs to them. Their data.
